In 2011, the resort town of Druskininkai was adorned with the “Crowns” monument created by sculptor Dalia Matulaitė and sculptor Vladimir Stankevičius, commemorating the last Jagiellonian, Sigismund Augustus, and his wife Barbara Radziwiłł—one of the most famous love stories in Lithuanian history.

The gray granite monument was erected in the Healing Park on the banks of the Nemunas River. The monumental stele symbolically marks the cooperation between the two cities—Druskininkai and Augustów—and invites exploration of the historical connections, heraldic symbols, and cultural memory of both nations. The monument consists of two impressive figures of the royal couple and a stele. The base features an excerpt from Juozas Grušas’ dramas “Barbara Radziwiłł” and “Union,” conveying Barbara’s words filled with love and devotion. This is a monument not only to history but also to values—freedom, love, and dignity.

The sculpture meticulously combines different granite processing technologies, highlighting the diversity of stone textures and embodying contrasts. “Žybartuva” took care of all granite supply and production work, contributing to the high-quality implementation of this culturally significant project.

• Kuru Grey (Finland) – a gray granite characterized by a uniform structure and color tranquility. The granite is processed using different production technologies—bush hammering and flame treatment, which help achieve different textures and reliefs. This granite is valued for its durability, resistance to environmental effects, and subtle aesthetics.
• Granite paving stones – the monument’s platform was paved with granite paving stones in two colors—gray and pink shades.
• Decorative accents – inscriptions and visual elements on the monument were executed using sandblasting technology, which allowed for precise line accuracy and an expressive result.
