The Sculpture “Užupis Obelisk” Dedicated to Poet Sigitas Geda Was Unveiled in Vilnius.

2025 May 29 at the intersection of Užupis and Krivių Streets in Vilnius. The sculpture “Užupis Obelisk” by artist Petras Repšys, dedicated to poet Sigitas Geda, was erected. The idea to create a memorial sign for the poet, the sculpture “Užupis Obelisk,” was conceived back in 2011. by renowned Lithuanian artist and National Culture and Arts Prize laureate Petras Repšys. The project was carried out by the Lithuanian Writers’ Union. The sculpture was crafted by Mindaugas Junčys.

On the western side of the sculpture, the text “I bring you the pure offering of the word” is inscribed, and on the eastern side, “To poet Sigitas Geda.” Mythological images are also carved on the sculpture, along with the initials of the monument’s author, P. Repšys.

The triangular area at the mentioned location was landscaped, and the triangular island was separated from the roadway by granite curbs. The height of the obelisk along with the pedestal is 2.62 m, and the granite posts that define the space for the sculpture are 50 cm high.

– Granite posts defining the space for the sculpture, granite – Kuru Grey (Finland), height 50 cm, number of granite posts – 14 pcs, processing method – turning, additionally treated with quartz sand.

– Road curbs, granite – Kuru Grey (Finland), dimensions 30×15 cm.

– Split paving stones, dimensions 10x10x5 cm, granite – Kuru Grey (Finland), area of granite paving stone site – 38 m2.
