2025 In October, artist Gitenis Umbrasas’ work “St. Christopher” was ceremoniously unveiled on the facade of the Vilnius City Municipality building, becoming a symbolic mark for the city and its people. At the center of the monumental 6×7 meter mosaic is the city’s patron, St. Christopher, composed of tens of thousands of small granite pieces. This artistic accent not only compellingly complements the city’s symbolism but also aesthetically integrates into the building’s architecture. The work was created over several years starting from 2017. It is one of the few contemporary art pieces that used natural stone not only as a material but also as a fundamental tool of artistic expression.

“Žybartuva” also contributed to this exceptional project by supplying various granite elements used to create the mosaic. We are sincerely happy to be part of this important work for Vilnius – it is not just art, but the creation of a cultural symbol together with the entire city community.

“Žybartuva” supplied and prepared all granite products. Technical project specifications:

  • Bohus Red (Sweden) – the main and dominant granite used in the mosaic, characterized by its intense red color, smooth texture, and durability. Due to its color richness and resistance to environmental effects, this granite was perfectly suited for both the artistic and technical execution of the work.

  • Other granite remnants – the mosaic also used various types of Scandinavian and other countries’ granite from carefully selected granite scraps, aiming not only for aesthetics but also sustainability – this is a conscious creative decision emphasizing a responsible approach to material and its use for artistic purposes.
