Floors of the Palace of the Grand Dukes: Restored Authentic Stone Grandeur

LOKACIJA

Vilnius, Lietuva

The upper floor halls of the Palace of the Grand Dukes feature floors made from authentic Swedish limestone, recreating the historical interior of the palace. This is the same natural stone that was used for flooring 500 years ago!

To ensure authenticity and harmony with the historical context, a representative from Žybartuva, along with architects and heritage specialists, traveled to limestone quarries in Sweden for a meticulous stone selection process. They assessed color shades, textures, layer consistency, and structure to select the most suitable blocks.

The limestone in soft, pastel shades—from light cream, ivory, and grayish to brownish or pinkish—perfectly complements the Renaissance style. This is an exceptional example of how natural stone not only helps restore history but also creates lasting value for future generations.
