Vilnius has been adorned with an impressive artwork – St. Christopher’s mosaic made from thousands of granite pieces.

On the facade of the Vilnius City Municipality building, on October 23, 2025, a significant city artwork was ceremoniously unveiled – the mosaic “St. Christopher,” created by artist Gitenis Umbrasas. The monumental mosaic, measuring 6×7 meters and depicting the city’s patron St. Christopher, composed of over 10,000 granite pieces, has become not only an architectural but also a symbolic emblem of Vilnius. The creation of the artwork spanned several years, starting in 2017! The dominant material is Swedish Bohus Red granite, whose brownish-red hues perfectly complement the building’s architecture and pavement. UAB “Žybartuva” contributed to this unique and important project for Vilnius by supplying granite elements of various colors for the mosaic.

Both new granite and carefully selected various granite remnants were used, aiming for sustainability and a responsible approach to material usage. We are delighted to have contributed to this cultural artwork – modern, sustainable, and aesthetically reflecting the spirit of the city.
