Restoration of the Chapel of the Lord Jesus

LOKACIJA

Vieta: Vilnius

Near one of the world’s most beautiful Baroque-style churches, the Vilnius Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, the historic Chapel of the Lord Jesus has been revived. Demolished during the Soviet era, yet preserved not only in photographs but also in precise drawings, this brick chapel returns to the cityscape as a significant marker of cultural memory.

The restoration work was carried out to accurately recreate the original architectural expression. The project’s uniqueness is enhanced by the chosen Bjärlöv (Champagne) granite—a natural light-toned Swedish stone valued for its durability, elegant texture, and ability to subtly blend into the context of historical buildings. This stone not only ensures aesthetic harmony with the Baroque church but also contributes to the chapel’s longevity, resistance to environmental impact, and preservation of architectural value for future generations. It is a project of restoring not only stone but also historical memory.

Additionally, “Žybartuva” participated in renovating the presbytery and steps of St. Peter and St. Paul Church.

“Žybartuva” supplied, manufactured, and installed the base, steps, and step finishes of the chapel pillar. Technical project specifications:

Materials used and their characteristics:

  • Bjärlöv (Champagne), Sweden—a warm, light brown granite distinguished by its elegant texture and natural glow. It was processed using the bush hammering method—creating a non-slip, subtly textured surface ideal for outdoor conditions. The inscriptions on the base were made using the sandblasting technique.
