2025 May 29 At the intersection of Užupis and Krivių streets in Vilnius, the sculpture “Užupis Obelisk” by renowned Lithuanian artist and National Culture and Arts Prize laureate Petras Repšys was unveiled, dedicated to poet Sigitas Geda. The monumental work highlights the subtle beauty of Swedish Bohus Red granite, characterized by striking textures, darker crystal lines, and a unique color palette.
The project is complemented by Kuru Grey granite from Finland, known for its exceptional resistance to frost, moisture, and mechanical impact. This granite was used in the precisely crafted 14 granite columns, which were turned and additionally treated with quartz sand, giving them a smooth matte texture and modern aesthetic. Finnish Kuru Grey granite was also used for the paving and road curbs, featuring a subtle gray color with fine black details that impart an impression of elegance and luxury.
“Žybartuva” supplied and prepared all granite products. Technical project specifications:
- The height of the obelisk with the pedestal is 2.62 m, Bohus Red granite (Sweden);
- 14 granite columns, Kuru Grey granite (Finland), height – 50 cm, turned, quartz sand treatment;
- Road curbs, Kuru Grey granite (Finland), dimensions – 30×15 cm;
