Memory Etched in Stone – Medardas Čobotas’ Grave with a Granite Cross and Monumental Composition
LOKACIJA
Menininkų kalnelis, Antakalnio kapinės, Vilnius
A monument for Medardas Čobotas, a signatory of the March 11 Act, doctor, and public figure, has been installed at Vilnius Antakalnis Cemetery. The sculptural composition stands out with its clear form and a cross rising between two black granite planes – a visual symbol of dignity and spiritual strength.
The monument features distinctive Swedish Absolute Black granite, known for its very dark, uniform color, which is a popular choice to emphasize special respect. The surface of the inscriptions is polished, and the letters are sandblasted, creating a subtle contrast while maintaining good readability. The cross is made from Kuru Grey granite – its light surface and polished texture visually contrast well and complement the overall aesthetic.
“Žybartuva” supplied and prepared the granite products. Technical project specifications:
- Black parts: Absolute Black granite (Sweden), polished surface, sandblasted and painted letters; surface engraving
- Cross: Kuru Grey granite (Finland), polished.
