The Language of Music in Stone – the Abariaus Family Grave in the Artists’ Hill
APDIRBIMAS
LOKACIJA
Menininkų kalnelis, Antakalnio kapinės, Vilnius
In the Artists’ Hill of Vilnius Antakalnis Cemetery rest renowned Lithuanian musicians Longinas and Gintautas Abariai. Their grave is distinguished by a subtle monument where the musical theme is conveyed not only symbolically but also directly, with musical lines sandblasted into the granite slab. The sculptural form is dynamic and contemporary, reflecting the spirit of a creative personality.
The monument uses high-quality Absolute Black granite, with a polished surface that gives the monument a rich visual depth. The side surfaces are flame-treated, creating a gentle contrast between different textures. The inscriptions are sandblasted and clearly legible, with a Kuru Grey granite slab featuring sandblasted notes in the middle, symbolizing a connection to the world of music.
“Žybartuva” supplied and prepared the granite products. Technical project specifications:
- Monument: Absolute Black granite (Sweden), polished, sides flame-treated;
- Musical symbolism: Kuru Grey granite (Finland), sandblasted notes; surface engraving
- Grave finish – grey crushed granite.
